Safari Season 2001 |
 |
| Dear
Friends,
I would like to thank all our loyal clients that
made it back again this year. A very special thanks to our new clients
that trusted us with their first experience in Africa and became
friends in the process
In many respects the year 2001 has been one of those dream years
we have always talked about.
The decisions and planning of the past few years have finally borne
fruit and the Stan Burger Safaris team that has promised to exceed
your expectations and make your dreams come true, has ended the
year to a standing ovation from all the new hunters and friends
who hunted with us this year, as well as some of our long time friends
back for their 3rd, 4th and even 5th safaris with us.
Thanks for all those unforgettable campfires and adventures with
us. When you look around your trophy rooms, I'm sure you will all
think of us as much as we do of you.
During 2001 we hosted 14 hunters including their friends and families.
Four of these hunters were old members of the Stan Burger Safaris
club. In total they took 93 quality trophy animals in 80 hunting
days. This points to the quality of our hunting areas and the great
marksmanship of our hunting clients. |

| "It's
just unbelievable" and "Shoot him!!!"
First to cross the great Atlantic Ocean were Bob Greene and James
Wilson of Gilroy, California, on their very first "unbelievable"
African safari. They hunted two areas, taking 10 record book quality
animals in 5 days of hard hunting. It was a dream come true and
an eye-opener on what fantastic hunting Africa can offer. Bob took
a 24" impala, and just 30 minutes after that Jim took a huge
26" impala, both gold medal class. Next was a jackal, what
a shot,Bob,that's one I'll remember.Next morning a magnificent 14"
Limpopo bushbuck. Jim got his kudu,he was a very happy man. Two
warthog and two gemsbuck, a duiker and a steenbuck. Big adventure
after the trackers finally earned their stripes and Stan followed
the warthog into its hole and had to dig it out afterwards. Thanks
Bob and Jim for all the fun and the laughter. I am sure we'll see
you back next year for more adventure. At least you don't have to
eat the liver again, guys. |

Camera
man
The next trip saw me hired as a video-grapher, photographer cum barman,
confident and ambulance driver for Mike Thourot and his merry men:
Phil Martin, Dick Gray, Gary Cleland, The Steffel Brothers, Hutch
and Dan the Man. Among many magnificent trophies taken, was a brand
new cold room.I won't mention any names. The boys had a grand old
time with the only real casualties being Dick and the "Famous
Grouse". I'll do it again anywhere, anytime for all of you.
Now for the Buffalo, boy's!!Can you imagine having so much fun and
still being paid for it. |

Cows
and lots of Bull
Menuhisha Doi brought us a new Japanese client in, mr. Nakamura. Some
hard hunting produced a 40" buffalo bull, 18" and 17 1/2"
blesbuck with one shot in the pouring rain. A record book class kudu
and gemsbuck in one day.
This was a hunt to remember in more ways than one.5 action packed
days. |

Giraffe
handbag, Suitcase?
Mr. Miyahara jr. from Japan came on his 3rd safari with us, this time
on his honeymoon. He must have a good woman there. A giraffe, an impala,
2 zebra and a huge warthog, the very one missed by his dad the year
before, completed his bag. The marksmanship displayed by this hunter
with a .378 weatherby defies description.Have fun on your submarine.
Thank you for spending this special time with us. As always it was
a great pleasure to hunt with you again. Now for the hippo and elephant
with the double rifle. |

Sort
the Tinnins out
In May the 5 Tinnins from Albuquerque, New Mexico, invaded the country,
Robbie in front, challenging everyone to a P contest. Sorry you had
to lose that one, Robbie, try again next year.
Tom brought his family to relive an African adventure he had 20 years
ago with his dad. For Jacqueline and I, to host such an awesome family
was very special. The combination of hunting and photographic safari
worked out very well. Both groups, hunters and girls bragging at night
around the campfire about who had the most fun that day.
We hunted the Northern Province area first, taking record book wildebeest,
waterbuck, warthog, impala and a LATE afternoon giraffe; Tom I'll
never let you forget that one. Robbie was blooded with his first impala.
He then went on to take a kudu bull, a warthog, both with brain shots,
a scrubhare then backed his dad up on a waterbuck. Not bad for a 9
year old. This was only the beginning. St. Jamie presented Tom with
a giant spoon for his constant stirring of the pot, Tom's biggest
hobby. "Be nice Tom or Jamie will sort you out".
Then it was off to our most beautiful Western Cape hunting area, Elandsberg
Estate. Tom took a 39" Cape eland, a gold medal bontebuck, hartebeest,
springbuck, black wildebeest, a gemsbuck and wild boar. The baboons
are still running, Tom. Here Robbie showed his mettle again, taking
a blue wildebeest, porcupine and a wild boar. Megan(do you know any
boys?) and Courtney(the silent one) were not to be outdone by young
Robbie. They both produced good shots, after I sorted them out, to
take a recordbook springbuck each on the same day, they were blooded
and ate the raw liver like good sports. Courtney shot another springbuck
which was bigger than her dads!Take that!Dad.What a girl.
Thank you all for the vote of confidence in us, the kind letters,
advice and encouragement. It should`t be such a traumatic experience
to pay upfront next time round Tom.We look forward to sorting out
another great trip together next year . |

Old
timer
Old stalwart, Karl Widl of San Francisco, California, accompanied
by mamma Trudy and friends Konrad and Gertie Schuster, on his 5th
African safari, came to enjoy the splendour of our beautiful country
on a combination hunt/photo safari and collect some of the few species
he did not have. A gold medal class 8 1/2" vaal rhebok, gold
medal bontebok and at last a South African springbuck. We laughed
a lot. Thanks Karl and Trudy for your loyal support over the years.
Jacqueline and I appreciate your friendship. |

Daga
Boy
The old "daga boy" dr. Thomas Baird and prof. Nancy Baird,
from Bowling Green Kentucky, on their 4th hunting safari , hunted
the Elandsberg in the Western Cape and allowed us to pamper them once
again. A great shot at last light secured Tom a magnificent 28"
nyala on our Zululand area. Next we hunted in the Northern Province
for a beautiful 55" kudu and at last, after some hard hunting
and a brilliant shot, that big waterbuck fell. You can if you want
to Tom.
For many years Tom has set his mind on the most elusive of them all, spots,
the leopard and his big brother, Shumba. This time we had a date with
mr. Spots. We worked very hard for him, Tom burnt a lot of midnight
oil and finally we bagged a one shot leopard. Just to finish things
of nicely, a long maned, dog killing kind of a lion came along and
made our day, to make Toms pussycat collection complete.A large amount
of adrenalin and a perfect ending to a perfect safari and another
dream come true.
It was wonderful having you two in my Africa again and Jacqueline
and I appreciate your continuing friendship and support. |

Doi
and Mr. Asakawa in Zimbabwe

was a short trip to Zimbabwe hunting the beautiful sable. The black
prince of Africa. We thank you for hunting with us again. We look
forward to your buffalo hunt in Mozambique next year. |

"That
warthog must die"- Don Stan.
Steve Cito of Albuquerque, New Mexico arrived with his clan. Three
generations of Cito men decended on Africa for their first ever safari
here. What a privilege to have Nono at 84 - with son Stephen and his
3 sons Mike, Mark and Joseph with us.As a result of good preparation,
excellent areas and superb shooting the clan took 24 record book trophies
including zebra and giraffe in 7 days of hunting. It was a very successful
safari, every trophy was of top quality and it just kept getting better.
All were blooded and they assured me that the raw liver was very good.
Highlights -Jacquelines salad dressing, the gourmet catering, Nono
shooting his 17" blesbuck - this was a great event for all of
us and we were honored to be able to share this special moment with
you all. Result: 2 gold medal hartebeest, 2 gold medal black wildebeest,
3 blesbuck over 17", a 39 1/2" gemsbuck bull, 38" gemsbuck
bull, mother of a warthog and everything else in the record book.
Then there were, inevitable with the Italian background, the personalities.
Mike can you really count to three? Joseph the gamehog and all round
golden boy, Mark cool, laidback and in charge.Stephen, the main man
with the $3000-00 model F binoculars, lost and found.
Nono, the dignified old gentleman watching his boy's have the time
of their lives while having one himself. I don't know how you kept
up with them like you did. What is your secret?
Steve, thank you for trusting us to take your loved-ones on this
unforgettable safari. We'll see you here again, soon. |

Mozambique
Dottori Antonio Nobile, Angelo Benso and Luciano Grini of Italy booked
a buffalo hunt with us through Gastone Santini. It doesn't get much
better than this, buffalo everywhere. We hunted out of Kafukudze camp
- Mozambique on the banks of the mighty Zambezi. Two buffalo in 2
days, what a hunt. The ultimate challenge for Luciano Grini:hunting
an old daga boy in the jesse - a "solitaire classic". You
wanted him, we got him fair and square. Thank you for full-mounting
your magnificent Chobe bushbuck. I don't think I will ever see another
shot like you pulled off, in my lifetime.
A 42" bull, shiny wet with mud was taken after a very good shot
at 120 yards, by Antonio Nobile. You made your own luck with some
of the best shooting it has been my pleasure to see.Your reward a
monster Buffalo. It pays to listen to the guide.
It was great to hunt with such gentlemen. Don't forget the parmesan
cheese next time.
Thank you for your support and kind words - you are part of the "family"
now.
See you in Italy in April next year. |
